Eli & the True Loves at the Echo 4-17-08
If you saw Eli on the street you wouldn't think he was anything more than I guy who looks like the illegitimate child of Francis from Pee Wee's Big Adventure and Wayne Arnold from the Wonder Years....
But realistically the guy is a mix of some of the finest performers from the 60's and he's doing it in the ots. This Boston based band have done their homework. They sound like Otis Redding meets Wilson Pickett meets Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings in an 2008 mixture of soul and dance. Last night he tore the roof off of the Echo. The show was surprisingly packed and a really a great time. I mean, what is better than being with your friends (Shout out to Jess, Kev, Nicole, and Ted) and listening to sweet soul music. He has been on tour across America for the last 6 months trying to get people into his groove. Eli sings and writes all the music. The True Love is a 6 piece band consisting of 2 sax players, 1 dude on trumpet (who also serves as his hype man), a drummer, bass player, and guitar player. This is a buzz worthy band!!! I spoke to Eli Reed for a bit after the show and he said that his main influence and inspiration came when he moved to Mississippi. He decided that he needed to get out of Boston and get down to the delta to feel the spirits of the old school. Since then he has been on a mission to get his voice heard. Zync Music is repping his music in the USA so you know it is cool. He is making ripples across the US and is ready to drop the bomb over in Europe. He is looking to have the Jimi Hendrix effect. Get big in the UK and then come back to the US. |
