Joe Jackson's opening act: Irish singer-songwriter Gemma Hayes delivered that rarest of things, an opening set of songs most of the crowd had never heard, but which nonetheless earned their attention and support.

Playing acoustic guitar (with atmospheric electric guitar work provided by sideman Dave Odlum), Hayes came across an appealing performer, and converted a decent number of newcomers judging by the way her CD was selling in the lobby at the break.
